Women have been facing pay discrimination for decades – and unfortunately, continue to do so today. In fact, women earn 79 cents for every dollar earned by men, even though they make up almost 50 percent of today’s workforce .When President Kennedy enabled and equal pay act in 1963 women were earning even less . Women earned 59 cents for every dollar earned by a man .The civil rights act of 1964 further strengthened laws against discrimination by making it illegal to discriminate on the basis of sex pay benefits , race , color , religion , age , and disability .
