Equal Pay For Woman

Give a brief history of your issue Women have been facing pay discrimination for decades – and unfortunately, continue to do so today. In fact, women earn 79 cents for every dollar earned by men, even though they make up almost 50 percent of today’s workforce .When President Kennedy enabled and equal pay act in 1963 women were earning even less . Women earned 59 cents for every dollar earned by a man .The civil rights act of 1964 further strengthened laws against discrimination by making it illegal to discriminate on the basis of sex pay benefits , race , color , religion , age , and disability .

Explain the proponents view point ? Some proponents are  National Organization for Women (NOW) , League of Women Voters , The Association of Women's Rights in Development (AWID) , Planned Parenthood , and The American Association of University Women . These organization fight to secure economic equality , equal rights for women , abortion rights , racism , discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in all ares , including employment , housing , health services , and child custody .

Republicans in congress have taken a lot of heat over the past few years for repeatedly blocking Democrats equal pay legislation . Republican have blocked the Democrats bill three times claiming that it would cause job loss .

The democrats feel as though they have been fighting for equal women's rights for many years and that they will  continue to fight for what's right . A quote from the democratic party platform states ( “We are committed to ensuring full equality for women. Democrats will fight to end gender discrimination in the areas of education, employment, health care, or any other sphere. We will combat biases across economic, political, and social life that hold women back and limit their opportunities.”

A presidential candidate and member of the European Parliament spoke out against equal pay . “Of course women must earn less than men because they are weaker “ he said . “They are small , less intelligent , and they must earn less . That is all “.

  The united states labor law and EPA IN 1963 states that No employer having employees shall discriminate . The civil rights act of 1964 is a law that outlaws discrimination based on race , color , religion and sex . Lilly led better Fair Pay Act Restores the protection against pay discrimination .
